Join the Board of Revenue Scotland and be part of a dynamic team, helping to fund Scotland’s public services, through the collection and management of devolved taxes.

Scottish Ministers wish to appoint three new members and are looking for individuals who have the ability/skillset to contribute to the strategic vision of the Board.

Previous board level experience is not essential, but you must be able to demonstrate all of the following essential criteria where experience, knowledge and skills will be assessed through the following areas:

  1. Strategic thinking

  2. Analytical and Decision-making skills

  3. Governance and Risk Management

  4. Communication and influencing

In addition you must be able to demonstrate one of the following  three priority areas listed below:

  1. Technology First - A critical element of RS strategy is to ensure we use technology as extensively and responsibly as possible to provide a seamless experience for users of our services , and to capture critical data in the most practical and compliant way. You will bring relevant understanding of the potential application and scalability of current and emerging technology, and its contribution to cyber resilience to the Board discussions and helping to provide further insights to the Executive Team.

  2. Resolving disputes – While most taxpayers are fully compliant, there will be times where Revenue Scotland is in dispute with the taxpayer and has to follow a path of litigation to ensure appropriate protection of revenues for Scotland. You will have an understanding of the various forms of dispute resolution , including legal action which will enhance the Board’s ability to look at strategic options in this area. You will be able to provide strategic support to Revenue Scotland’s in-house legal team.

  3. Organisational Change – As an agile organisation, Revenue Scotland will continue to evolve to address the changing tax environment and the skills that will be required to ensure it remains an effective and efficient body. This will include strategic projects that will help to change the organisation to address future challenges. You will bring experience of oversight or leading implementation of organisational change to the provide strategic support to Revenue Scotland’s Leadership Team.

You are invited to provide a supporting statement (up to 1000 words) to demonstrate how you meet all of the four essential criteria with an additional statement (up to 350 words) setting out your evidence for one priority criterion, and listing any others you say you meet. Please also provide a tailored CV of no more than 3 pages along with the application form that contains your personal details, declaration and equalities monitoring information.
