The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) is the independent professional regulatory body that maintains and enhances teaching standards and promotes and regulates the teaching profession in Scotland.


We are looking to appoint four Lay people to serve as Council Members.


As a Council member, you will play an important role in:


- Influencing and making key decisions that will help shape the future of teaching, the teaching profession and other education professionals in Scotland.


- Ensuring the maintenance of high standards in teaching and learning and the protection of children and young people.


The work will be principally based in Edinburgh


You will have strategic and analytical skills, be an excellent communicator, have sound judgment and decision making skills, have a strong sense of fairness, integrity and professionalism and be able to work successfully as part of a team.


Appointment: 1 interim position for a 2 year term to 1 April 2020 and 3 positions for a 4 year term to 1 April 2022.


Commitment: Approximately 11 to 15 days per year


Compensation: £75 for each half day of attendance (up to 3.5 hours). Reasonable expenses will be refunded
