Do you believe that the voices of children and young people must be heard? Do you have a successful track record of leading and driving change and improvement? Are you an influential and forward looking leader?

If so, then we want to hear from you.

Scottish Ministers want to appoint a new Chair to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA).  The Children’s Hearings System is Scotland’s distinct approach to legal decision making for children and young people in need or at risk. SCRA is an essential part of Scotland’s internationally-admired system of childcare and justice.

Along with our partner agencies the aim is to provide a safety net for vulnerable children and young people who may need compulsory support, delivering solutions which meet the needs of individual children while helping to build stronger families and safer communities.  One of the System’s most important aspects is the recognition that children and young people who offend are often the same children and young people who require care and protection.

SCRA’s vision is that vulnerable and at risk children and young people in Scotland are safe, protected and offered positive futures.  The vision is underpinned by our values which ensure that the needs of children and young people are at the centre of everything we do.

We want someone who is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people; someone eager to play a lead role in the Children’s Hearings System; someone who wants to make a real difference to Getting it Right for Every Child in today’s challenging climate.

Full details of the criteria to be met for the position are contained in the person specification, which forms part of the application pack.

Scottish Ministers welcome applications from groups currently under-represented on the boards of Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, disabled people, ethnic minorities and people aged under 50.

Remuneration:  The Chair is remunerated at a daily rate of £190 per day (non-pensionable). You will also receive reimbursement for essential travel expenses and reasonable childcare/carer costs incurred whilst undertaking Board duties.

Time commitment:  As Chair, you will be expected to devote around 2 days per week to your duties.

Appointment details:  The term of appointment is for up to four years, with the possibility of re-appointment up to a maximum term of 8 years, subject to evidence of effective performance.

Location:  Routine meetings take place at SCRA’s Head Office in Stirling.  Development days are normally held at one of SCRA’s Operational Offices around Scotland.

Interviews:  It is expected that interviews will be held on 18 December 2017 in Edinburgh.  Please ensure that you can attend on this date as we are unable to offer alternatives.
