Do you have the passion to make a difference for the people of Scotland? Are you a strategic-thinker with a real focus on improvement? Do you have the confidence and skills to take on one of today’s most important and demanding public service roles?

Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint five Members to the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) and would welcome applications from those who believe they could make a positive and confident contribution to the SPA and its future development. These roles require commitment and energy and offer a unique opportunity to help build a safer, stronger, more resilient Scotland through the effective oversight of an essential public service that touches the whole of society.

The SPA and Police Scotland’s ten year Policing 2026 Strategy sets out ambitious plans to build the police service that Scotland needs for the future. It forms the foundation of an ambitious and far-reaching programme of change within Police Scotland and the SPA has a pivotal role in supporting and scrutinising its delivery.

Ministers are particularly looking for people who can demonstrate a successful track record of Non-Executive / Board governance or senior regulatory scrutiny in a high profile and complex environment, and / or experience of leading strategic collaboration within and between organisations to improve community safety, reduce harm or address vulnerability in society.

Under a new Chair, this is a time of change and challenge for the Authority at a key point in its evolution as a public body with responsibility for the oversight and development of one of Scotland’s most important public services. With a renewed focus on transparency, collaboration, good governance, performance and public accountability, this is a chance for some of Scotland’s most able and committed people to step forward and play their part in driving improvement and change

The positions attract a remuneration rate in the form of a daily fee of £300, with a time commitment of 5 days per month on average.

Applications would be particularly welcome from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, ethnic minorities, disabled people and people aged under 50.

The new Chair, Susan Deacon has also filmed a video message about the roles for potential applicants: Message from Susan Deacon - SPA Board Recruitment
