The National Confidential Forum is looking to appoint two new Members
Could you play a vital role in acknowledging the experiences of adults who were placed in institutional care as children, including survivors of abuse?
The National Confidential Forum (the Forum) started hearings in February 2015. The Forum gives people who were placed in a residential care or health service as children the opportunity to share their experiences through a confidential, supportive and non-judgmental process. The Forum will also learn lessons from those experiences, and seek to ensure they are applied to the care of looked after children today. The Forum is a committee of the Mental Welfare Commission (Commission) but conducts hearings independently from the Commission.
For these posts you must be able to demonstrate the following:
* Experience of working with individuals who may be vulnerable or who may have suffered traumatic experiences
* Ability to listen and communicate effectively
* Ability to analyse and review complex information, record data and draft reports
* Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with others in a small team
* Enthusiastic about the rights of care experienced people to have their experience acknowledged and developing a comprehensive report that contributes to the national record
The Scottish Ministers particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, disabled people, those from minority ethnic communities, and people aged under 50.
For more specific detail of the particular requirements of the roles, please see the the person specification, which forms part of the application pack. Also included in the pack is more detailed information about the National Confidential Forum.
Remuneration: The Member role attracts a remuneration rate of £244.82 a day, which is non-pensionable. Expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment, including reasonable travel and subsistence costs and dependant carer and childcare expenses, will be reimbursed.
Time commitment: Members will be expected to devote an average of one day per week, however some flexibility is required as a hearing with related tasks and commitments may generate more than 4 days per month. This commitment will be subject to the demands of the organisation and so could increase or decrease month by month
Appointment details: The term of appointment will be for up to 2 years. When a term comes to an end, the skills the Forum requires will be reassessed. If you satisfy the requirements of the new person specification at that time, and there is evidence of your effective performance, Scottish Ministers may consider reappointing you for a further term. A member’s total period of appointment will not exceed eight years.
Location: The National Confidential Forum is located in Glasgow but hearings are also likely to be held in other parts of Scotland.
Interviews: It is expected that interviews will be held on 30th and 31st May in Edinburgh.
Further information: If you would like to find out more about the role, you are welcome to contact Dale Meller, Project Manager, National Confidential Forum on 0141 352 2333, or by email to email@example.com.
