Scottish Archaeological Finds Allocation Panel – Professional members
Would you like to play a vital role in the Treasure Trove system in Scotland?
Scottish Ministers are seeking to appoint one professional member to the Scottish Archaeological Finds Allocation Panel (SAFAP) which provides advice to the Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer about archaeological items discovered in Scotland, recommending whether the artefacts should be acquired for the nation, where they should be allocated and if a payment should be made to the finder.
We are seeking candidates with relevant experience in archaeology, archaeological conservation, commercial excavation and/or the care and exhibition of archaeological artefacts. In particular we are looking for candidates with current experience of curating an archaeology collection or experience within the last three years of managing museum collections including local history and substantial archaeology collections.
Ideally candidates should have some experience of the application process, storage, conservation and presentation issues surrounding Treasure Trove items. Applications from individuals with experience or skills in numismatics or valuing finds would also be welcome.
The Panel usually meets three times each year. Members would be expected to attend all Panel meetings and any additional meetings and events. The total commitment is around 8 days per year.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is: 31 May 2018.
Interviews will be held in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27 June 2018. It is expected that candidates will be informed of the outcome by the end of September 2018. The successful applicant will be expected to take up post on 1 January 2019.
