Non-Executive Board Members - Discloure and Barring Service

Reference:1537

Remuneration:£12,000 per annum

Location:Nationwide

Closing date:04 November 2018 at midnight

Do you want to play a leading role in safeguarding children and vulnerable groups?

If so, you can do this by becoming a Non-Executive Board member of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), which provides a critical public service by supplying information to employers and other organisations in England and Wales (and barring information only in Northern Ireland), so they can make informed recruitment and licensing decisions, particularly for employers and volunteers working with children and vulnerable adults. The DBS also has responsibility for deciding whether an individual is barred from working with vulnerable groups.

The DBS is seeking two Non-Executive Board members.  The first is to have a strong commercial background, to provide effective oversight of the DBS commercial landscape. The other should be a safeguarding specialist, with expertise in analysing evidence, assessing risks and providing advice in relation to the suitability of people who seek to work with children and vulnerable adults. We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of delivering success, outstanding communication skills, and excellent political awareness. Both Board members will be committed and goal focused, with the ability to set clear priorities and to contribute meaningfully to Board discussions.

The successful candidates will also possess excellent communication skills, coupled with a personal and professional demeanour that generates trust and confidence in others. They will be able to analyse complex issues and have the ability to constructively challenge and influence strategy and decision making.

This will be a three year appointment with the possibility of re-appointment.
