Appointment of Chair to Fife College
Appointment for up to four years from 3 March 2019
Scottish Ministers are appointing a new Chair to Fife College. Applicants must already have board experience and be able to demonstrate experience, knowledge and expertise in all of the following:
- Strategic Leadership
- Planning and results
- Working with others
Fife College is a leading provider of further and higher education offering a wide range of courses and training opportunities that serve a mix of rural and urban populations, including some of the most deprived in Scotland. The main campuses are located in Dunfermline, Rosyth, Glenrothes, Levenmouth and Kirkcaldy with community learning centres across Fife.
With 6,000 full-time and 14,000 part-time students, over 1,000 staff and a budget of £45 million, Fife College offers a wide range of inspirational learning experiences from essential skills to graduate degree programmes. Its high quality, sector-leading programmes are designed to respond to the needs of the economy and society more generally.
The College’s extensive provision ranges from access to degree level study and includes full-time and part-time courses, evening classes, flexible and on line learning, vocational qualifications and business training courses.
Length of appointment
The appointment will be for up to four years with the possibility of reappointment subject to evidence of effective performance and satisfying the skills and knowledge required at the time of reappointment and beyond. Reappointment is not automatic. Any appointment and subsequent reappointment will not exceed a maximum total of eight years.
It is anticipated that you will devote up to 2 days per week to performing your functions as and when required, up to a maximum of 104 days per year. Whilst the majority of Board meetings will take place in the local area, you will be required to attend meetings, representing the board, in other venues across Scotland from time to time. Your time will mainly be spent attending meetings, reading documents, evening and weekend events and contributing to national debate and policy development relating to post-16 education, as well as keeping abreast of the wider context to address sector wide issues.
Remuneration and Expenses
Remuneration rates are related to the turnover and staffing numbers of the college, and are paid monthly in arrears. The daily remuneration rate for this position is £265, up to a maximum total fee of £27,560 per financial year. Expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment including reasonable travel and subsistence, and dependant carer and childcare expenses will be reimbursed.
