The Scottish Funding Council is seeking to appoint four new members to its Research & Knowledge Exchange Committee. These vacancies have arisen due to current members reaching the end of their term.
The Research & Knowledge Exchange Committee (RKEC) has a role to respond to, recommend and advise the Council on research and knowledge exchange strategy, policy and funding issues relevant to Scottish higher education institutions and colleges. These broad areas of advice include (but are not limited to):
1. Providing regular analyses of the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and threats in the areas of research and innovation support, taking a broad view;
2. Providing regular and timely advice to the SFC’s Board on prioritisation, in the use of the Council's resources to maximise the delivery of the strategic plan and to address Scottish Government outcomes;
3. Working with Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise and other stakeholders to give SFC’s Board advice on a strategy for innovation and support of knowledge exchange for sustainable economic growth;
4. Identifying opportunities for SFC’s Board to consider interventions to leverage significant resource into Scotland in support of research and/or knowledge exchange.
The Committee generally meets 4/5 times per year. Members may, on occasion, be asked to attend related meetings and events where appropriate. In this instance, SFC is seeking to appoint committee members with experience in academic research and/or innovation and knowledge exchange and we would be particularly interested in hearing from applicants, from across Scotland, who can demonstrate evidence of the following:
a) Experience of working at a strategic level with, or for, a Scottish HEI;
b) Critical thinking, for example in a formal committee or board context;
c) A comprehensive understanding and experience of research policy, leadership and innovation including the creative industries at the international and UK wide level including collaboration between academia, industry and wider;
Members may claim a small fee for attending meetings and SFC will pay travel expenses in line with Council policy.
