Do you share our passion for cultural heritage and have the skills to help us realise our ambitions?

Following a decade of investment in our museums and collections, and with the successful completion of the £80 million transformation of the National Museum of Scotland behind us, we are seeking a new Chair of our Board of Trustees to lead our ambitious plans for the future.

Our new Chair will have the drive to lead and inspire the organisation, guide our strategic decision-making, represent us in the public arena, support our fundraising and help develop the dynamic potential of our museums.

As one of the leading museum groups in Europe and a key heritage and culture organisation in Scotland, National Museums Scotland is responsible for a remarkable collection which brings together the arts and sciences, and the cultures of Scotland and the world, alongside the diversity of the natural world.

Combining a passion for sharing the stories of the objects in our care with world-class research and conservation, our work reaches out across Scotland and internationally. Last year we welcomed over 3.2 million visitors across our four museums, and engaged a wide range of audiences through outreach and imaginative public programming. As a national centre of excellence, we play a leading role in supporting the museum community across Scotland.

The new appointee will take the Chair formally on 01 August 2020 and the average time commitment is 3 to 4 days per month.

The closing date for applications is Midday on Monday 10 February 2020.

Full details can be found in the applicant information pack, via the link below.
