Remuneration:£170.03 per day

Location:Glasgow or Edinburgh

Closing date:30 April 2021 at midday

Healthcare Improvement Scotland
Appointment of a Member with experience of healthcare, social care, and/or housing.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s aim is to ensure that the people of Scotland experience the best quality health and care services.  We work with people at every level of the health and social care system and we make sure improvements in care are informed by the experiences of people who deliver and people who use services.

As a national improvement organisation, we are able to see all of the integration jigsaw and how the parts fit together. This perspective allows us to shape, tailor and provide support that responds to both individual provider’s and system needs, providing a great opportunity to support improvements in the care that people receive.

Remuneration:  The current fee is £170.03 per day.  Travel, dependant carer costs and reasonable business expenses are also met.

Time commitment:  The time commitment will vary week to week, but you must be able to make a firm commitment to spend two to four days per month (up to 48 days per year) on Board business.  This time will be a mix of daytime board meetings; committee meetings as well as development and strategy days, preparation for meetings and reading documents. We hold four Board meetings per year. In addition, there are up to three Board seminars and three development sessions. There are five Governance Committee meetings per quarter. Non-executive members would be expected to be a member of up to three Governance Committees.

Period of Appointment: The term will be for up to four years, with the possibility of re-appointment for up to a further four years.  Any reappointment is subject to evidence of an effective performance and to satisfying the requirements of the person specification for the role at the time of re-appointment.  Re-appointment is not automatic.  The total period of appointment must not exceed eight years.

Location:  The meetings for the Board and its Governance Committees will normally be held either in our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices, but may on occasion be held elsewhere throughout Scotland.  As we continue to live with COVID-19, currently meetings are generally held remotely using a virtual platform, for which you will receive appropriate training and support.  Although, going forward, the expectation is that the work will be a blend of virtual and physical meetings, a physical presence will be required to be able to carry out the full range of Board activities.

Interviews:  Interviews will be held on 15th and 18th June 2021.  Given the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic and any restrictions which might be in place, we are currently planning for the interviews to be conducted via MS Teams.  We will review this nearer the time and if Public Health guidance indicates it is safe to do so, we may consider holding these face to face, which would be in Edinburgh.
