Remuneration:£9,348 per annum

Location:Glasgow City

Closing date:28 June 2021 at midday

Join the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) to protect and promote the interests of tenants and others who use social housing services, such as people who may be homeless and Gypsy/Travellers.  Due to retirements, Scottish Ministers would like to appoint two new Board members to complement the existing SHR Board team.

The Board sets the Regulator’s strategic direction and ensures it is focused on key priorities to meet its statutory objective. SHR is an independent regulator that reports directly to the Scottish Parliament.  How it regulates Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and the housing and homelessness services provided by local authorities is set out in its Regulatory Framework, which it has flexed in response to the pandemic.  On 31 March 2021 the Regulator published the outcome of its annual risk assessment, which reflected the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it will be working with each social landlord through these unprecedented times.

In particular we are seeking someone with at least one of the following priority skills and experience:

  • current or recent experience as a practicing Scottish solicitor representing vulnerable clients;

  • understanding of regulation delivery in any sector;

  • understanding of the green agenda in the built environment; or

  • understanding of digital developments and cyber security.

You will be able to work within a team, have strong communication skills, be able to challenge constructively and also analyse and review complex issues. You do not need previous board level experience.

Appointments are based on meeting the skills required and these are described in more detail in the application pack.

Scottish Ministers particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, ethnic minorities and people aged under 50.  They would also encourage applications from those with personal experience of having a disability arising from a physical or mental impairment.

Appointed on merit: committed to diversity and equality.
