Trustees - National Galleries of Scotland

Location:Edinburgh, City of

Closing date:01 October 2021 at midnight

Are you interested in being part of the leadership of the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) in some exciting developments over the next four years?

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to join one of Scotland’s major cultural institutions then we would like to hear from you.  NGS is looking for up to five new and enthusiastic members to join its Board.

Applications are invited from a wide range of people.  Firstly, from individuals who have a particular interest in, and enthusiasm for museums and galleries and who feel they could make a positive contribution to the work of the Board; and secondly, from individuals with more specific skills in Finance/Accountancy, HR or in Collections/Research of art/art historyrelevant to NGS, who could bring and share their experience and expertise with the Board.

NGS are also looking for people who have the capacity and commitment to grow into the role as a Trustee and develop their skills.  For these positions, you will be expected to play a central role in guiding the delivery of the organisation’s strategic plan and objectives.  You do not need to have previous experience of being on a Board.

More broadly, NGS is seeking to broaden the diversity of its Board.  It is important that its Board has members from a range of geographic regions in Scotland and we actively encourage and support applications from individuals across Scotland as well as the rest of the UK.

It is anticipated that three of the five appointed members will take up post for a period of four years on 10 January 2022 with the other two members taking up post on 1 October 2022, with the possibility of re-appointment subject to effective performance and Ministerial approval.  The posts are not currently remunerated but reasonable travel and subsistence costs will be met.
