We are looking for a Non-Executive Director

Can you support National Records of Scotland (NRS) to achieve our Vision:

The Appointment

We are looking for a new Non-Executive Director to join us for a period of up to 4 years.  Initially the appointment will be to our Audit and Risk Committee (ARC), although if appointed there may be opportunities to become involved in the work of other committees or groups, including our Strategic Board, at a later date.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in relation to Finance, with an understanding of this in the public sector / central government context being particularly useful.

About us

NRS collects, preserves and produces information about Scotland’s people and history, and makes it available to inform present and future generations.   We are headed by Paul Lowe, Chief Executive, who fulfils the roles of two statutory office-holders; the Registrar General for Scotland and the Keeper of the Records of Scotland. NRS has a separate Accountable Officer. NRS is a Non-Ministerial Department that sits within the Scottish Government’s Culture, Europe and External Affairs portfolio. We have approximately 450 staff.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

The NRS Chief Executive Officer and the Accountable Officer have established an Audit and Risk Committee to support them in their responsibilities for management of risk, control and governance and associated assurance. In this context Non-Executive Directors have an advisory function and are there to provide advice, support and  constructive challenge.

A person specification has been drawn up to explain the skills and experience Non-Executive Directors will be expected to demonstrate and which will form the basis of the recruitment process.

Attendance is required at quarterly meetings of ARC, for which there is remuneration of £242 per meeting.  Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Attendance at additional meetings or workshops is likely to be required during the year, for which there is the same level of remuneration.
