Remuneration:Starting salary of £41,432 per annum

Location:Edinburgh, and to other locations throughout Scotland

Closing date:27 November 2015 at midnight

In March 2016 a vacancy will arise for a part-time member of the Scottish Land Court.  The Land Court comprises both legally qualified members and lay members expert in agriculture.  This is an agricultural member’s post.  Applicants should have extensive experience of modern Scottish agriculture, whether farming or crofting, and a thorough understanding of the issues affecting the industry.  Since lay members participate just as fully as the legally qualified members in the hearing of cases and writing of judgments, good powers of reasoning leading to sound conclusions are required.  The post will be based at the Court’s headquarters in Edinburgh but will involve hearing cases throughout Scotland.  The work of a Land Court member is varied, interesting and challenging and applications are invited from the widest possible range of candidates.

The appointment will be made on the basis of the successful candidate working an average of three days a week (sometimes more, sometimes less).  The starting salary is £41,432 per annum, with an annual leave entitlement of 30 days plus public holidays on a pro-rata basis. The role is pensionable.  The statutory retirement age for members of the Court is 70.
